Thoughts on Consumption

Being with AdvoCare, I see a spike in my business at the beginning of every New Year. People have it on their hearts to get healthy and lose weight to kick off the New Year, and I think their intentions are good. I am certainly lumped right on, and even though mine this year is a little more geared toward workout and fitness things to accomplish, I am certainly not opposed to trimming a few pounds to kick things off. Woke up this morning thinking about some simple changes that would help all of us--not necessarily in the area of losing weight, but just for being healthier and feeling better.

1. Drink 8 glasses of water: I've heard this one forever but often don't do it. Have been doing it to kick the year off and can tell a huge difference.

2. Protein and fats at breakfast time: Revs the body's metabolism in the morning and will help cut down on eating throughout the day. Lean digestible protein (our AdvoCare meal shakes are a great source) and healthy fats (Clay recommends a teaspoon a coconut oil first thing) are essential to kick off the day.

3. Be conscious of portion size: Thanks to our friendly neighborhood fast food restaurants, our portion sizes are way out of whack. Many of our desired health/weight outcomes would show up as a result of eating serving sizes of our food. I have been guilty of this one a long time, been trying to monitor this one of late.

4. Balance the plate: Each meal with a serving of lean meat (closed fist), rest of the plate filled with fruits, vegetables and healthy fats (almonds, pistachios, seeds, etc.). Been doing okay on most of these but I have to step up my veggie game.

5. Wheat be gone: Consume as little wheat as possible, so very minimal on the breads and pastas, which dominate most of our diets. Wheat is designed to survive the digestion process so that it can reappear through waste and grow again, so it's not of much use to us.

6. Supplement: With our fast lifestyles and the processing/nutrient depletion of our foods, very tough for us to get what we need from diet alone. A solid starting point for everyone would be a sun-soil-oil approach: the Vitamin D our ancestors used to get from constant sun exposure (AdvoCare CorePlex), soil that contained natural good bacteria to fight the bad bacteria in our guts (AdvoCare Probiotic Restore), and oil from catching fish as a primary source of nutrition (AdvoCare OmegaPlex).

Of course, consumables deal with more than just what we put in our mouths, so filling our mind and soul with uplifting music and good words, filling our lungs with fresh air through exercise, etc., are all part of the consumption process. Would like to see each of us get to feeling better and living healthier--not for a while, but for good.
