Servant Heart

I'm ashamed to say that I can be a very selfish person, mostly when it comes to how things are going for me. When I'm struggling with something or not having a very good day, I am not very good at shifting my focus off myself and onto others--I suppose I'm not alone that way. My whole professional life has been client-oriented--first as a teacher and coach, as a gym owner, and now as an AdvoCare man, my jobs have also involved looking out for the well being of others. Most professions have some element of that, but mine have been intensively client-centered.

I woke up today with the idea of service on my heart. Matthew 23:11-12 says, "The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." The greatest among you--isn't that what we are striving for in this life? We want life at its fullest and its most rewarding; for me, the times I have felt the most fulfilled are when I have been able to set aside my own needs and serve somebody else. Now, I just need to do it more often...

Today's challenge: Take time out of your day to serve someone today. Offer to do something at home that your spouse normally takes care of. Perform an act of service or kindness for a close friend. Go out of your way to help somebody out. The good will you create will be worth the effort.
