I don't rest well; in fact, I would describe myself as restless a lot of the time. It's a running joke in my inner circle that I don't sleep much--most of them reading this are probably surprised that I don't post it at about 4 in the morning. But rest is crucial in our lives. To the athlete, giving the body time to heal and repair is just as crucial to progress as training it. To the man of faith, being still and quiet enough to hear God's voice is just as crucial as talking to him. And as posted above, rest is Biblical: if God needed a break, then we would be wise to follow his lead and take a break too.
"Be still, and know that I am God..." --Psalm 46:10
Our lives are busy--we have made it so, and this can be good. But a balanced life calls for some rest to go along with our industry. It's one of the toughest spiritual concepts I will face this year.
Today's challenge: Rest up--recharge for the week ahead--spend some quiet time alone to clear your heart and mind.
